The Delhi Bar Association will observe a complete strike tomorrow in protest against alleged inflated electricity bills for power supply to chambers in the court complex.
The day-long strike at Tis Hazari courts has been called by the Delhi Bar Association demanding roll back of the electricity bills and reverting the nature of bills from non-domestic to domestic.
"The strike is against the high-handedness of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDA) and the indifferent attitude of the government of NCT of Delhi.
"The Executive Committee of Delhi Bar Association strongly condemns the illegal attitude and style of working of TPDDL. This private electricity company has unilaterally and without any notice to lawyers (consumers) had changed the tariff of electricity bills of lawyers chambers at Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi from domestic to non-domestic," DBA Honorary secretary Nitin Ahlawat said.
He said about 20,000 advocates of Tiz Hazari would participate in it.
Ahlawat also said "under the garb of the orders of DERC, the company has started raising bills on non-domestic tariff which is totally illegal and unwarranted and amount to forgery and cheating for which it is liable to be prosecuted."
He said the lawyers' body has made several representations to the electricity company and the Delhi government but in vain and that the agitation would be intensified if there demands are not met with in 10 days.
