Delhi BJP today welcomed the move by the Centre to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to re-investigate the cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the national capital and some other states.
An order setting up the SIT was issued yesterday by the Union Home Ministry.
Meanwhile, reacting to the attack on a convent school in Delhi in the wee hours today, the party's Delhi unit said that the incident should not be given a political or religious colour.
"Incidents like theft at a school should not be given political or religious colour and Delhi Police should act fast to book the culprits," BJP leader Praveen Kapoor said.
The school in south Delhi was vandalised by unidentified persons in what is the sixth attack on Christian establishments in Delhi in the last three months. The incident prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to summon Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi and order a crackdown on those involved in such incidents.
Police and authorities of Holy Child Auxilium school, however, claimed that robbery was the motive behind the attack.
