Delhi unit of Congress today passed a resolution praising party chief Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi for strongly fighting against NDA's land Ordinance and "winning battle of farmers".
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), during its meeting held here, also discussed preparations for party's 'Kisan Samman' rally to be held at Ramlila Maidan on September 20.
The NDA government had issued the Ordinance thrice, making amendments to the 2013 land acquisition act brought in by Congress-led UPA-II.
The executive order, which allowed acquisition of land without consent of farmers for PPP projects in five categories, however, invited criticism with opposition parties accusing BJP government at Centre of being "pro-corporate".
"The Modi government wanted to make changes in 2013 act. But Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi strongly fought against the Ordinance to protect interest of farmers inside and outside Parliament to put tremendous pressure on BJP Government which was forced to withdraw its decision," DPCC chief Ajay Maken, who introduced the resolution, claimed.
The former Union minister also announced various party-level committees which will take care of preparation for the rally.
Besides Maken, AICC in-charge of Delhi PC Chacko, AICC secretary Kuljit Singh Nagra, ex-MP Sajjan Kumar and former DPCC president Jai Prakash Agarwal addressed the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by ex-MPs like Jagdish Tytler, Mahabal Mishra, Ramesh Kumar, DPCC chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee and others.
