Delhi govt collects 1400 crore in taxes in April

Delhi government has collected over Rs 1400 crore in taxes in the month of April which is 4.4 per cent of the total revenue target of Rs 31571 crore for the current fiscal.
The collection under VAT was Rs 940 crore followed by Rs 228 crore under stamps and registration fees and Rs 116 crore from state excise.
Top officials in the Finance department said the government was satisfied with tax collection in the first month of the current fiscal and exuded confidence of meeting the target of Rs 31,571 crore in 2014-15
Besides, the Transport Department has collected Rs 93 crore in lieu of registration of new vehicles in the city, they said.
Apart from that, other Departments have utilized plan funds of Rs 294 crore in April against the approved outlay of Rs 16000 crore for the annual plan 2014-15.
The public works department has spent Rs 191 crore on various capital projects under education sector, health and road and bridges.
In the last fiscal, a total Rs 158 crore was utilized by the departments of the government.
Delhi government has initiated the process of preparation of regular budget for the current year which will be placed before the Parliament for approval before the period of vote on account lapses.
