The implementation of the Delhi government's decision to double the honorarium of anganwadi workers may get delayed as the Model Code of Conduct is in force for the August 23 Bawana assembly bypoll, sources said today.
Lt. Governor Anil Baijal has sought opinion of the Election Commission before approving the AAP government's decision cleared by the Cabinet last month, the sources said.
Giving relief to about 22,000 anganwadi workers, the government had increased the honorarium of anganwadi workers from Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,678 and of anganwadi helpers from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,839.
The Cabinet decision was then sent by the government to the Lt. Governor for his approval.
An official said that the communication from the LG's office seeking opinion on the issue has been forwarded to the Election Commission.
Model code of conduct is in place for the Bawana assembly bypoll which is scheduled for August 23.
The sources said the Delhi chief secretary had also approached the ECI seeking advice whether legislative Bills could be tabled in the upcoming monsoon session of Delhi assembly as model code of conduct is in force.
The Delhi government is planning to re-introduce three legislative Bill which were sent back by the Centre, suggesting amendments in the draft.
An official claimed that the EC has given its go ahead for bills to be reintroduced in the Assembly and Cabinet will approve these Bills tomorrow.
