With the arrest of two persons, including an employee of a company, Delhi police today claimed to have cracked a robbery case.
The assailants had robbed around Rs 22 lakh from two employees of a private company, one of whom is an accused, at gunpoint in Keshav Puram area in northwest Delhi on Monday evening, police said.
One of the accused, Sunil Kumar, is an employee of the same company and was carrying the money when the incident took place. He was the one who leaked information about the money to his four associates, they said.
The other robber Kuldeep Singh Rithala, a notorious criminal was arrested from a wedding function near Britania Chowk after a shootout. He and his associates fired at the police team at the wedding venue and the police had also retaliated in self defence, police said.
According to the police, the incident was reported from Netaji Subhash Place area on March 9 evening. A police team immediately reached the crime spot and learnt that a bag containing the money was robbed from Sunil and Lalit, employees of a private company.
"Sunil and Lalit were riding a motorbike and were coming from their office with the money when they were intercepted by a car. One of the four armed assailants caught Sunil and pushed him inside the car along with the bag.
"Lalit was beaten up by the other robbers before they fled from the crime spot," a senior police officer said.
On their complaint, a case of robbery was registered at Keshav Puram police station.
Along with local police, a special investigation team (SIT) was constituted to probe the case.
During interrogation, the police found discrepancy in Sunil's statement and discovered that he was in dire need of money for building his house.
"While scanning his mobile records, we found that he was in touch with some suspicious persons. While questioning, Sunil confessed to his crime and disclosed the name of his associates," the senior officer said.
During their interrogation, it also came to the fore that there were two more persons identified as Alla Rakha and Aman Soni involved in the robbery. They are still at large and a police team has been formed to nab them.
