With the arrest of two men, Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang circulating counterfeit notes in the national capital and seized Fake Indian Currency Notes having face value of more than Rs six lakh from their possession.
The accused, identified as Pankaj alias Sonu (25) and Jai Prakash (22) were arrested by the staff of North East district police on Saturday, following a tip off.
Constable Jeet Pal posted at Nand Nagri Police Station had received information that Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) are being made available at 60 per cent rate of the original notes. This information was passed to senior officials and a team was constituted to nab the culprits.
On Saturday around 4:20 PM, the team apprehended Jai Prakash who had two fake notes of denomination of Rs 500 each and one of Rs 1,000.
Upon his interrogation, Jai Prakash confessed that his associate Pankaj will come to deliver FICN after one hour at Rahul Vihar, Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad.
The team along with Jai Prakash reached the spot and nabbed Pankaj along with a bag. Seven bundles of denomination of Rs 500 and three bundles of Rs 1,000 FICN were recovered from this bag," said DCP (North East) Veenu Bansal.
The face value of the fake Indian Currency Notes recovered from the bag was Rs 6,02,000, he said.
During interrogation, the duo revealed that while working in Noida, Pankaj came in contact with some persons who offered to circulate FICN in the markets with a good margin.
"Pankaj obtained some FICN from them which he successfully used in the market of Aligarh with the help of his childhood friend Jai Prakash. Thus, they got greedy and involved themselves in the supply of FICN.
"The duo used to contact the prospective buyer, show him fine quality forged Indian currency notes and fix the deal. Main accused would then provide the FICN to them for delivery," he added.
