Delhi Police discusses security steps ahead of R'Day

At the meeting chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, senior police officers from Haryana, UP, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan were present.

The objective of the meeting was to share terror related intelligence and inputs about various extremist outfits, a senior police official said.

Kumar stressed on the need for increasing police presence, intensive checking at vulnerable points, tenant verification, guest house checking and sensitisation of cyber cafe owners, second-hand car dealers, transporters, property dealers, cycle sellers, chemical dealers and phone booth owners.

He also informed the meeting about steps taken by Delhi Police to ensure security of women after the bus gang-rape case. Safety of women working in BPOs, media houses, corporate houses, firms, companies and organisation and their travel during odd hours were also deliberated upon.

The official said information on wanted interstate criminals and their modus operandi was exchanged.

"Surveillance over interstate criminals involved in heinous offences, repeat offenders and gangs was emphasised. Action against 'Mewati' criminals was also stressed upon. Measures required to be taken to prevent escape of under trial criminals while in transit too were discussed," he said.

The meeting also decided to set up strong pickets at border check posts.

"It was decided that senior officers from other states will advise the respective Traffic Police and Transport Authorities to remove 'tinted' glasses and take steps for safety and security of women. It was also decided to educate transporters to install GPS system for safety and security of their vehicles and goods," the official said.

Bordering state police officers were requested to take necessary steps to divert traffic or stop it from entering Delhi before 10 pm till the Republic Day.
