The flow of arms to the national capital from Mathura is under the scanner of Delhi Police which had earlier investigated arm hubs in Bihar's Munger and those in Khargone, Barwani and Dhar districts of Madhya Pradesh.
From the past few months, a team of Delhi Police's Special Cell has been entrusted with the task of gathering input on flow of arms from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police official said.
Earlier this week, Delhi Police arrested a gunrunner connected to the Mathura module and seized 27 locally fabricated semi-automatic pistols from his possession.
The Mathura module of the arms suppliers gains prominence following the massive clash between police and members of a sect who had encroached on government land in Mathura, which left 27 persons dead.
The members of the cult-like sect had gathered massive amount of arms and ammunition.
The police recovered 47 country-made pistols, six rifles, 178 live cartridges, 15 four wheelers and 6 two-wheelers were from the site of the clashes. However, the source of the arms and ammunition is yet to be ascertained.
Munger came into Special Cell's radar in 2012, followed by a series of raids which led to the recovery of AK-47 replicas. Then came Khargone and later Mewat in Haryana. The Mewat module, however, had little expertise in replicating semi-automated arms, the official said.
