Delhi Police PCR to have 500 more policewomen: Jung

Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today said the number of women police personnel in Delhi Police PCR vans will soon be increased to 500 to ensure their greater presence on the streets for the safety and security of women in the national capital.
"Safety and security of women are necessary conditions for their greater participation in public life. The women workforce in PCR vans will be increased to 500 in the coming days so that there is greater presence of women police personnel on the streets," he said while addressing women's organisations and groups who met him on the issue of women's safety.

During the meeting, members of the organisations and groups also discussed measures to enhance the safety and security of women in the national capital.
They suggested the LG to tighten the security to keep a tap on incidents of eve-teasing outside schools, especially during change of shifts and to ensure safe toilet facilities for women and girls in schools, also in slums and other colonies.
The women organisations raised various issues faced by women and girls and shared their views and constructive suggestions to improve the status of women's safety.
They also suggested to make active the committees against sexual harassment in all sectors, government, private, media etc, gender resource centers, gender sensitisation programmes to de-stigmatising sexual harassment, and strengthen and convergence of women helpline numbers.

Delhi Police, on the occasion, made a short presentation highlighting various initiatives taken by them to ensure the security and safety of women in Delhi including Women's Helpline Number 1091; An Anti-Stalking Service for women, "Himmat" Mobile Safety App for women, the Himmat Whatsapp Group and the Facebook page for feedback.
Jung later thanks the organisations for their suggestions and said that the issues raised by them will be achieved in the set timeline and reviewed by him within two months to assess the progress.
Women organisations including All India Democratic Women's Association, Centre for Equality and Inclusion (CEQUIN), Center for Social Research, Jagori, Justice Sunanda Foundation, Lawyers Collective, MARG, Jamia's Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies, Delhi University's Department of Social Work, Swan Chetan, Shakti Vahini and Shakti Shalini among others were present there.
