"Government of India is targeting 175 GW of renewable energy capacity out of which 100 GW will be solar power," Sukesh Kumar Jain, Secretary (Power) said today, as he stressed upon development of domestic manufacturing base in the country.
Addressing a conference on Renewable energy here organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Jain flagged the issue of pricing and encouraged development of technology at cheaper rates so that cost of generation of solar power can be reasonable.
"Renewable energy has become an extremely important topic particularly after the recent Paris climate change summit, where it has been agreed that the nations would work towards maintaining global temperature increase to 1.5 degree....Which definitely is not an easy goal and it can only be achieved by using clean and renewable energy," he said.
Jain also highlighted the Delhi government's initiative of odd-even car number to curb the environmental crises in the national capital and requested the city dwellers to give it a try.
