Delhi, UP resolve to settle land dispute

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments today resolved to settle a land dispute between the two states through dialogue and work towards a solution where the two can together use the area.
Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today held a meeting here where they decided that the Chief Secretaries of the two states will meet to settle the matter.
The meeting came after the Supreme Court asked the two states to sit together and resolve the matter.
"We decided that the Chief Secretaries of the two states will meet and decide how best the two states can utilise the land," Jung told reporters after the meet. He, however, refused to give a timeline.

He said both Delhi and UP should develop.
The dispute between the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments relates to ownership of 214 bighas of land in South Delhi.

The land is next to irrigation department facility of UP government in Okhla.
Delhi intends to acquire the land for the expansion of Jamia Milia Islamia University.
The matter remains pending before the Supreme Court, which has favoured an amicable settlement between the two governments.
UP has maintained that if the 92-year-old Jamia Milia required land in the Okhla Village area, it should approach the UP government in the same manner the Delhi Metro and Akshardham Temple authorities had come.
