In order to complement the government's efforts to promptly reach patients to hospitals, the Delhi Waqf Board will launch an ambulance service in areas with sizeable Muslim population.
"We have planned to initially start the service by launching five ambulances to help poor and needy people in the areas where minority community people live in large numbers," said Amantullah Khan, chairman of Delhi Waqf Board.
The ambulances will cater to the needs of people in Seelampur, Okhla, Mustafabad, Babarpur and Jama Masjid areas, he said.
Khan said that a cost of around Rs 25-30 lakh is estimated to be incurred on the ambulances which will start plying this month.
The plan of running ambulances is in line with the aim of the Waqf Board which stipulates utilisation of its income for charity, assistance to the poor and needy, maintenance of the mosques, dargahs, graveyards and Khankah (places for spiritual retreat), and establishing educational institutions and hospitals, he added.
