PC maker Dell is looking at tapping into the nascent but fast-growing Indian gaming industry with its range of Inspiron Gaming laptops that are priced at Rs 74,490 onwards.
Dell already has a premium gaming products range under 'Alienware' brand that competes with the likes of Asus and BenQ.
Dell's rival HP had also launched its 'Omen' range of notebooks and a desktop in February this year to tap the growing community of gaming enthusiasts in India.
"While we have a huge base of Alienware fans, we felt there is a gap in the market that we could fill. With the Inspiron Gaming range, we are looking at making gaming more mainstream," Dell India Vice President (Consumer and Small Business) P Krishnakumar told PTI.
The company has also introduced new virtual reality (VR)-ready models of Alienware.
"A large number of youngsters are gaming enthusiasts, right from casual games to active games. We have a definitive roadmap in this segment and we will expand our portfolio for a wider set of gamers," he said.
According to a CII report, India's gaming industry was valued at USD 543.08 million in 2016 and is projected to cross USD 800 million by 2022.
Computer gaming segment accounted for a share of 15.54 per cent of the Indian gaming market at USD 84.4 million in 2016.
The gaming industry in India has grown rapidly over the last decade, predominantly on the back of increasing smartphone and Internet penetration coupled with rising income levels in the country.
Dell's new Alienware notebook range with three models will see prices starting at Rs 1,64,990. "We are ensuring our gaming range is available across over 600 Dell Exclusive Stores," he said.
