Oscar-nominated actor Demian Bichir will join "The Conjuring 2" spin-off "The Nun".
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bichir will play a priest named Father Burke in the movie. The priest is ordered by Rome to investigate a mysterious death of a nun.
Corin Hardy directs "The Nun", while James Wan, who helmed "The Conjuring" and "The Conjuring 2", serves as producer along with Peter Safran.
Wan also co-writes "The Nun" script with Gary Dauberman. Plot detail is still kept under wraps, but "The Nun" will center on the demon nun which stole viewers' attention in "The Conjuring 2".
"The Conjuring 2" script originally didn't have the iconic demon nun in it.
The character was added during re-shoots months before the movie was released, when Wan had an idea to reconcieve a demon.
The terrifying appearance of the nun helped the movie earn a spectacular USD 320 million at global box office.
Bichir was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in "A Better Life". His other movie credits include "The Hateful Eight" and "7:19".
Bichir will next be seen in Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant" and Western drama "Walden: Life in the Woods".
"The Nun" will start filming in Romania sometime in summer and will be released on July 13, 2018.
Meanwhile, another "Conjuring" spin-off titled "Annabelle" has got a sequel. The sequel titled "Annabelle: Creation" will hit US theatres on August 11.
