Some people staged demonstration and tried to storm a Rehabilitation and Periphery Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) meeting for Ultra Mega Power Plant in Odisha's Sundergarh today.
The demonstrators, demanding slight shifting of the proposed rehabilitation and resettlement colony for project affected people, were dispersed by police personnel present at the site, a senior police officer said.
Minor damage was caused to the vehicle of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, who represents Sundargarh in Lok Sabha, when someone threw a stone, District Collector B S Punia said.
"Someone threw a stone which hit the back glass of Oram's car," the Collector said. The minister was not in the car but was attending the meeting when the incident happened.
Punia said the meeting was discussing about the R & R site for the ultra mega thermal power plant project which is proposed at Darlipali.
The bidding for this project is yet to begin. However, the government wants to hand over the site free of any problem so that there would be no impediments in the progress, he said.
The R&R village is proposed near one already existing village. For this settlement villagers are showing little reluctance but there is no major problem, he said.
"The situation is completely under control and no violence took place at the meeting venue," said Prasant Kumar Mohanty, SDPO, Sundergarh.
