Dengue action: JNU, DTC, DDA challaned for mosquito-breeding

Over 80 challans have been issued to government and educational institutions in the city, including JNU, DDA, DTC and PWD, for breeding of mosquitoes in their premises, the SDMC today said.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has imposed these challans as part of its drive against control of dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
"Till now over 80 challans have been issued to government institutions and this action will be continued in future also," a senior SDMC official said.
The city today also reported its second dengue victim in the death of a 37-year-old woman with the total number of cases from the vector-borne disease shooting to an alarming 277, with over 220 of them being reported in the first two weeks of August only.
82 dengue cases have been reported in south Delhi, which is dotted with government and educational institutions.
The offenders among the over 80 cases, according to SDMC, include, "DDA, DTC, JNU, PWD and schools, among other places."
In SDMC's South Zone, the offenders included hostels of JNU (Kaveri, Satluj, Jhelum, Jamuna), Old JNU campus (CRPF office), DTC depot at Vasant Vihar.
In West Zone, a school and Metro construction site at Vikas Puri, were penalised, the SDMC official said.
In Najafgarh Zone, DDA booster pump site in Dwarka, veterinary hospital at Kapashera, and a MCD primary school were challaned for mosquito breeding in their campuses.
In Central Zone, a junior engineer of CPWD, DTC depot and DSIIDC premises on Ring Road, and PWD office on J B Tito Marg were challaned, the official said.
For the entire city, from January 1 till August 14, as many as 1,28,679 houses have been fumigated, 1,13,784 households have been found positive for breeding, and 81,086 legal notices have been issued for mosquitogenic conditions. Nearly, 9,599 prosecutions have been launched in the same period.
