The city saw its first dengue death this season, with a 21-year-old youth hailing from Topsia in east Kolkata succumbing to the vector-borne disease, taking the statewide toll to 10.
"The youth died yesterday, but we were waiting for the reports to confirm whether it's a case of dengue death," state Director of Health Services Biswaranjan Satpathy said.
He said in another case, a labourer from Bihar died in Birbhum district today, but it was not immediately confirmed if it was a case of dengue death.
"We are unsure whether it's a case of dengue. We are waiting for the reports," the official said.
In the last 24 hours, Satpathy said, another 100 new cases of dengue were reported, taking toll of affected persons to 1,270.
These cases were reported mostly from Serampore Municipal area apart from North 24-Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah and Nadia districts as also a few districts in north Bengal, he said.
