Dense fog hits air, rail traffic in city

Dense fog reduced visibility to zero in many parts of the national capital this morning, severely affecting air and rail traffic in the form of several diversions and cancellations.
The Palam weather office recorded visibility at zero metre at 8.30 AM. At Safdarjung observatory, it was marginally better at 150 metre.
Around 26 flights were delayed or diverted at Delhi Airport while three were cancelled, according to the IGI website.
Flight operations at the airport are "intermittent" but not "suspended", an airport official said.
Sixty trains, including Sealdah, Howrah, Jammu and Bhubaneswar Rajdhanis, are running behind schedule by about two to four hours due to the fog, said a Northern Railway spokesperson.

"The minimum temperature was 11.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The maximum will be around 26 degrees Celsius," a Met official said.
Humidity was 98 per cent at 8.30 AM.
Yesterday, 18 flights and 50 north-bound trains were delayed as heavy fog engulfed the city for the first time this season.
