An association representing dental doctors today sought increase in retirement age to 65 years.
A delegation of the association met Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh seeking his intervention against alleged discrimination towards them in the matter of age of superannuation.
The delegation led by H P Singh, president of Central Government Dental Doctors' association handed over a memorandum to Singh.
The doctors pointed out that whereas the central government has raised the superannuation age of non-teaching specialists sub-cadre, public health sub-cadre, General Duty Medical Officer sub-cadre of Central Health Service to 65 years, the same rule somehow, did not became applicable to dental doctors working.
This has led to feeling of discrimination and grievance among the central government dental doctors, they alleged.
The memorandum said that out of 34 sanctioned posts of dental doctors all over India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at present only 24 posts are filled and occupied, a release issued by the Personnel Ministry said.
The delegation underlined that they had represented their grievance to the Health Ministry and were now approaching Singh in the hope that, being himself an eminent medical professional, he would be able to appreciate their predicament better and project it appropriately to the concerned quarters.
Singh gave a patient hearing to the members of delegation and said that he would take up their grievance with the Health Ministry.
Other prominent members of the delegation included Gautam Khatak, D Kabi, Rahul Minotra, M Vasu, Meenakshi Panda and Nishtha Ramawat.
