Expressing serious concern over the critical condition of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, J&K CM Mufti Sayeed today told the media persons here that he had a detailed discussion with the Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari regarding carrying out immediate repairs of the most important road link between the Valley and the rest of the country.
"The tourist season has begun and the Amarnath Yatra is also going to start after some time. My main focus will be to make NH 1-A roadworthy so that people do not face any problems," he said and added that Director General, Border Roads Organization (BRO), will be visiting the state soon to expedite the ongoing works on the National Highway 1-A and other roads which are under BRO.

However, he said the government is working on another all-weather link with tunnels from Chenani-Sudh Mahadev- Khelani to connect the Chenab Valley.
On May 5, Sayeed had asked the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to 'manage' the Srinagar-Jammu highway more properly keeping in view its strategic importance.
The CM had a meeting with Lt Gen Mittal in New Delhi on May 5.
During his meeting with DG BRO, Mufti Sayeed highlighted the issue related to the maintenance of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which is presently in a critical condition.
The Chief Minister desired BRO to carry out urgent repairs on NH 1-A to make it roadworthy, in view of the coming tourist season.
