"India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the India team have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during its 21-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first One Day International held in Hambantota on Saturday," the ICC said in a statement.
The India side was ruled to be an over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Chris Broad imposed a 20 per cent fine on Dhoni while each of his player received 10-per-cent-fines.
"The offence is contrary to Article 2.5.1 of the code which relates to minor over-rate offences. The finding and penalty were imposed following a full disciplinary hearing," the statement said.
India won the first match by 21 runs last night.
