Amidst calls for appointment of a Dalit as Chief Minister in Karnataka, Congress leader Digvijay Singh today ruled out any possibility of change in leadership and said Siddaramaiah is doing a "good job".
"Since yesterday I'm hounded by the press on the issue of Dalit Chief Minister in Karnataka. I'm very surprised that the media has made it a big issue," Singh told reporters here.
"I believe that most of the organisations which are demanding, they have got different political affiliations, and therefore I think there is no possibility of changing the Chief Minister at the moment," he said.
Few Ministers and MLAs in the Congress party, as well as some Dalit leaders claiming themselves to be the voice of the community have been making public statements demanding for appointment of a Dalit Chief Minister.
Calling Siddaramaiah led government a "progressive one", Singh said, "The government has taken steps to better the quality of life of the people of Karnataka."
"After the Congress party got the mandate, there was the meeting of the legislature party and Sidddaramaiah was unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress legislature party. Therefore there is no question of any change," he said.
Listing out Dalit leaders in the party including Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Singh said "There is no demand or resentment as such against the incumbent Chief Minister who is doing a good job. There are no complaints of corruption against him and he is carrying all sections of society with him.
