Giving a push to development of roads, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today launched a major project worth Rs 423 crore under which a signal free corridor will be constructed between Mangolpuri to Madhuban Chowk on Outer Ring Road in North West Delhi.
The Chief Minister, while addressing a rally in Mangolpuri after laying the foundation stone of the project, said the government has already sanctioned Rs 2,200 crore for construction of a 20 km signal free corridor from Vikaspuri in West Delhi to Wazirabad in North Delhi.
She said that the road infrastructure projects are aimed at bringing down the traffic congestion in various arterial roads in North and West Delhi.
"The capital city has been witnessing the biggest ever infrastructural development by Public Works Department and other agencies. We are keen to make Delhi into an advanced convenient and ultra-modern and world-class city in the world," she said while addressing the rally which was also attended by Union Minister Kapil Sibal.
The Chief Minister said the government has launched another major project under which 647 roads, which were taken from municipal corporations, will be strengthened at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore.
Dikshit said that the signal free road between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad would be linked with the signature bridge being built across the Yamuna in East Delhi at a cost of around Rs 1,200 crore.
Giving details of the corridor between Mangolpuri and Madhuban Chowk, she said its length will be 4 km out of which 2.6 km would be elevated.
Taking a pot shot at BJP, she asked people "not to be carried away" by "false propaganda" of the opposition party.
"They changed three Chief Ministers during 1993-1998. There used to be riots on electricity as the power cuts used to be for 18 hours daily and there is no shortage of power in Delhi now as we are committed to ensuring 24x7 power supply. The opposition is indulging in theatrics as they have nothing to offer to the poor people of the city," she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Communications and Law Minister Kapil Sibal complimented Delhi government for ensuring "unprecedented development" in the city in the last 15 years and said that BJP was feeling discouraged due to people's continuous support to Congress government.
"Delhi has witnessed unprecedented development in last 15 years," he said, expressing confidence that Dikshit would lead the party to a fourth consecutive victory in the assembly polls slated for November this year.
