The Commissioner has taken cognisance of a media report on February 7 about allegations of rough treatment of some visually-challenged students of National Institute for Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Dehradun, by a security guard in the Dehradun-Howrah Express train.
"When the train reached Haridwar, a man in a police uniform boarded the train and asked them to deboard the train. When the students requested that they be allowed to complete the journey, the man beat them up," CCPD said in a letter to Railway Board.
The Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has been mandated to take steps to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities under Section 59 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights & Full Participation) Act, 1995.
