Dismissed cop dupes ex-FCI official of Rs 5.4 lakh

An FIR has been registered against a dismissed police constable for allegedly cheating a retired FCI manager of Rs 5.4 lakh, police said today.
Accused Milind Salvi, a resident of neighbouring Navi Mumbai, duped 71-year-old victim Narayan Hate by promising to clear his pending pension by falsely boasting about his contacts with top Congress leaders, they said.
An FIR was yesterday registered against Salvi on charges of cheating and breach of trust following a complaint Hate, who retired as manager in Food Corporation of India (FCI) in 2004, Dahisar police station's senior inspector Ansar Pirjade said.
Salvi, who was last posted with the Local Armed Police in the city, was dismissed from service on disciplinary grounds in October last year, police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched for him.

Salvi, who is Hate's distant relative, took Rs 5.40 lakh from him after promising release of his pending pension from the government, police said.
Trusting him, the victim gave the money to Salvi between October 13 last and April 14 this year. Salvi, however, later remained unavailable.
