Distraught over crop loss, farmer hangs self from tree in UP
Press Trust of India Kanpur Apparently distressed over crop damage due to incessant rains, a 35-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Bidhnu area, police said today.
Shivbaran Singh, a resident of Jagdishpur village, committed suicide yesterday in front of his wife who tried in vain to stop him.
A suicide note recovered from the spot said that he was disturbed over crop failure and financial constraint, police added.
Singh's wife Sunita claimed that he was also upset over a "meagre" compensation cheque of Rs 1,782 received on April 14.
The villagers later informed the police following which they recovered the body.
