The Arunachal Water Resource Department is carrying out on a war footing restoration of the diverted Kamlang River to its original course to avert a flood threat to large areas in Lohit district.
Official sources said that to find out the cause of the diversion of the river, a team of engineers, led by WRD executive engineer M K Doberiyal, traced 1000 metres up the river stream from here.
The river there got diverted towards the left bank from its original course.
"Huge deposition of silt at the right bank of the river and landslides are the main causes of the sudden diversion of river," the team found out.
Approximately 250 meters of embankment at upper point and 100 metres of boulder wall have to be built to turn the river to its original path, Doberiyal said.
A two-day spell of rain has caused the water level of the Kamlang river to rise, resulting in the inundation of NH-52 at two different points.
A team of officials also visited the Noa-Dihing river site whose bank is eroding fast posing immediate threat to Old and New Silato, Kakoni, Podomini and Philoni villages under Mahadevpur.
