The clash took place after Deivalingam allegedly made some remarks on the acquittal of AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case when some AIADMK councillors started praising her.
Suspending Deivalingam, Mayor S Soundappan alleged that Deivalingam brought two rowdies and beat up AIADMK councillors Jamuna Rani and Mariappan.
They have been admitted to hospital, he said.
