DMK Prez Karunanidhi files nomination

DMK chief M Karunanidhi today filed his nomination from the Tiruvarur constituency for the May 16 Assembly polls.
He filed his nomination papers with the Tiruvarur constituency Returning Officer Muthu Meenakshi.
The 93-year-old former five time Chief Minister is seeking re-election from Tiruvarur.
He has won in all the assembly elections he has so far contested since his debut at Kulithalai in 1957.
Earlier, he paid floral tributes at the memorial of his mother Anjugathammal in Kattur near here.

Karunanidhi said prohibition would be implemented in the state if his party is voted to power.
"DMK is firm on implementing prohibition and my first signature on becoming Chief Minister would be declaring the dry law," he said seeking votes for his party-led alliance.
Karunanidhi criticised AIADMK's assurance to implement prohibition in a phased manner.
Wooing farmers, who form a major chunk in the region falling under the Cauvery delta, he said DMK's manifesto had given prominence to their welfare.
DMK if voted to power would introduce a separate budget for agriculture, he added.
Repeatedly highlighting the power of youth, the DMK president urged the young men and women to take an active role in social transformation.
