The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which has devised a rating mechanism for Metro stations and buildings, on a scale of platinum, gold and silver awarded the highest rating to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at an event here today.
While the 4.4 km long extension of the Yellow Line was launched last year, the power sub-station was inaugurated recently by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
DMRC has drafted a solar policy under which it aims to generate 20 MW power by 2017 and 50 MW by 2021. It has already commissioned 6.3 MW and has awarded contracts for another 20 MW.
Delhi Metro is developing all its stations of Phase III as green buildings which it says will help bring down power consumption by 35 per cent.
