Maharashtra government has decided to handover the ambitious 18.5 km Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for implementation.
The decision was taken by the executive committee of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at a meeting here today.
Committee's Chairman and state Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshartriya accorded administrative approval to the appointment of DMRC to implement Dahisar-DN Nagar metro-2 and interim consultant for the 16.5 km long Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) metro-7 corridor, an MMRDA release said.
The committee also approved 25 electric/hybrid buses for the Bandra Kurla Complex and appointed JMC Project to construct a 3-km-long flyover from Late Rajiv Gandhi Chowk to Saibaba Mandir in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation area.
"The growing demand for speedy and comfortable public transport will always remain on top of our priority list," Metropolitan Commissioner UPS Madan said.
The Rs 5,566 crore Dahisar to DN Nagar metro corridor is the first phase of the Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd corridor and will be implemented by the DMRC which has prepared the detailed project report of the work.
"The DMRC has also been appointed interim consultants for the Rs 4,737 crore Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East). The DMRC will oversee the project and will help prepare all documentation related to construction including bid documents, estimations, among others," he said.
The committee, during the meeting, also approved 25 electric or hybrid buses in a bid to ease commuting woes in the Bandra Kurla Complex.
"The buses will be provided at a cost of Rs 53 crore by Tata Motors. The complex has been the centre of attention for a number of activities. This provision of bus service is also a part of smart BKC project," Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Sethi said.
