After busting a 'baby lifting' racket and rescuing two stolen baby boys, the police have approached a local court seeking permission to conduct DNA tests for identifying their parents.
"The procedure is being followed to identify their parents and to avoid any controversy," said ACP Seetaram Satpathy.
Accordingly, an application was forwarded to the local SDJM's court, he said.
The police last week rescued two babies from separate locations and arrested four persons, including the mastermind of the racket.
The babies were stolen from the gynaecology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
While a three-day-old baby went missing from here on January 5, another seven-day-old baby was stolen on March 8.
Masquerading as an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), one Minati Samal had allegedly stolen the babies.
"The infants will be under the care and comfort of the Hospital till the parents of the rescued babies are identified," said SCB Hospital emergency officer Dr B N Moharana.
