Dog feeds on body at Jind hospital mortuary, Vij orders probe

A shocking video of a dog feeding on a body at the mortuary of the civil hospital in Jind in Haryana surfaced on social media triggering outrage and prompting the state government to order a probe into the incident.
The latest incident comes barely four months after three disturbing incidents of rats nibbling at dead bodies at hospitals in Kurukshetra and Kaithal were reported.
In the latest video, a stray dog is seen feeding on the body of an unidentified person lying in the mortuary of the civil hospital, Jind.
The video is believed to have been shot by a passerby, who also alerted hospital officials about the incident.
Police said the dead body had been found on railway tracks and was brought to the hospital on April 16 by the Railway Police for post-mortem examination.
Taking a strict view of the incident, Health Minister Anil Vij today ordered an inquiry into the whole incident.
The minister has asked Director (Dental Health) in the Haryana government Dr Parveen Sethi to look into the matter and submit a report within two days, an official spokesman said here.
A police officials said that the body was properly handled and the room had been locked a they had no clue how the door was opened and dog managed entry inside.
The body had been kept for identification in a separate room of the mortuary premises, the official added.
