There was a mere one per cent rise in domestic flyer numbers carried by Indian airlines in January-July compared with the same period last year as passenger load factors of almost all of them went down.
The number of passengers carried by domestic airlines in the first seven months this year grew 1.2 per cent from 354.53 lakh last year to 358.80 lakh this year, official data released today showed.
The total number of passengers carried by all airlines in July was 48.66 lakh, compared with 50.14 in June.
Barring Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite, all other airlines showed a declining passenger load factor (PLF) in July when compared with that in June. PLF is the percentage of average seats filled in an aircraft.
In terms of market-share, no-frill airline IndiGo cornered 29.7 per cent, while Jet-JetLite together had 25.3. Air India bagged a steady 19.7 per cent, which was more than SpiceJet that had 17.5 per cent share of the market. GoAir had 8.3 per cent.
