West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she doesn't want any security for herself which might cause disturbance to others.
"I don't want any security which disturbs anyone in any way. I don't want that when I am travelling someone else is disturbed in any way," Banerjee said at the annual function of Kolkata Police.
"I like travelling in a very simple way so that my work doesn't harass anyone. I try to do that as far as possible," said Banerjee, who travels in a Santro car and is known to stop at traffic signals in the city like other citizens.
She has also refused pilot vehicles for her convoy though norms of Z plus security is maintained.
Banerjee said while Kolkata Police officers have successfully handled big matters but sometimes failed in dealing with small things.
She, however, praised the role of police in maintaining law and order in the state.
Banerjee said since her government came to power, five police commissionerates had been set up, 1,30,000 civic police volunteers recruited, besides more than 6600 police personnel in Kolkata and another 40,000 in the rest of the state. New police stations, fast-track courts and women courts had been set up.
Extending support to policemen, she said "If any policemen dies on duty, we will and we have always taken full responsibility of their family".
Banerjee, who is also the state's home minister, said they have taken a policy decision to allow all constables who have completed 15 years of service to be posted in their home districts.
