DPR of Four-lane highway project cleared by Centre

The proposed
Itanagar-Banderdewa four-lane highway whose detailed project reports (DPRs) were pending with the Union Ministry of Road, Transport & Highway (MoRTH) was put on fast track at a high level meeting chaired by Union MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi yesterday.
The project should be taken up immediately as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the state during the Statehood Day celebration on February 20, Arunachal Pradesh PWD Minister Gojen Gadi, who attended the meeting, urged the MoRTH officers led by Chief Engineer S N Nirmal.
He also briefed them about the communication problems confronting the land-locked state, particularly traffic congestion in the Capital Complex and sought expeditious approval and sanction of the project to ease the communication hazard in the state capital, Gadi informed in a statement here today.

He referred to the objection of the ministry's regional officer, posted at Itanagar, and requested to send him to Itanagar immediately to re-estimate and resubmit the DPRs, if required, immediately for sanction without any delay.
Pointing out to the reported proposal of the ministry to award the eight road packages of the state for which tenders were floated to an outside company, Gadi pointed out that execution of such projects involving lot of formalities, including land clearance would be difficult for any outside company and advocated it should be given to the state PWD.

In a memorandum to MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari, Gadi sought his intervention for allotment of these eight packages to APPWD which has a vast presence throughout the state.

Rijiju on receiving the copy of the memorandum also assured to pursue the minister in this regard.
Responding to the plea of Gadi about number of dilapidated bridges, like the bridge over river Subansiri, along the roads to many districts which serve as lifeline, the CE assured to speed up the process on receipt of the proposals.
