The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Patna metro rail project will be finalised by August 31 next and sent to the Centre for approval, a minister said.
During his reply to a debate on his department's demand for expenditure of Rs 2,420.94 crore for 2014-15, state Urban Development minister Samrat Choudhary today said in the Assembly that the DPR for Patna metro rail project would be finalised by August 31 before being sent to the Centre for approval.
He said the state government has also approved routes for the metro rail project for which a survey was conducted by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES).
Chaudhary, who had crossed to the ruling JD(U) from RJD two months ago and was rewarded with the plum Urban Development portfolio, took a dig at the BJP for failing to identify routes for the metro rail project in the state capital despite the fact that its ministers had presided over affairs of the department for seven and half years.
He, however, sought support of the BJP MLAs to get the Centre's approval for the Patna metro rail project.
Amid a walk out by the BJP MLAs expressing dissatisfaction with the minister's reply, the House passed the Urban Development department's demand for expenditure for the 2014-15 fiscal by voice vote.
The Urban Development Minister also promised to set up a solid waste treatment plant in Patna and public transport infrastructure and potable water supply to the towns and urban areas across Bihar.
