According to a YCMOU press release, Dr Vayunandan was serving as a professor of public administration at New Delhi based Indira Gandhi national open university (IGNOU).
Last year, Vice-Chancellor Dr Manikrao Salunkhe had resigned his post on August 19 before completing his term and since then the post had been vacant.
During this time, Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik was holding the additional charge as VC of YCMOU, the release added.
