Personnel from as many as 12 police stations in Mathura were pressed into service to nab Imaan Khan, who was wanted in kidnapping of a Gujarat-based businessman.
More than 500 bullets were fired during the gunfight between the police team and the criminals present inside the house, where Imaan was taking shelter.
Acting on a tip off, Delhi Police's Special Cell team raided the house in the outskirts of the Mathura city.
"Imaan was taking shelter there along with other criminals and was arrested by the Special Cell team. Delhi Police with the help of local police is trying to nab other criminals, who fled after firing at the police party," Arvind Deep, Special Commissioner of Police (special cell), said.
Imaan, a native of Palwal, had moved from his hideout in Rajasthan to UP.
Upon receiving this information, the team led by DCP PK Kushwaha had reached the village to arrest him.
Meanwhile, a fire was shot from a house was retaliated by the police team and finally Imaan was arrested after exchange of several rounds while his accomplices managed to escape, the officer said.
Imaan was wanted in connection with a case of kidnapping of a Gujarat-based businessman and his employee from Chandni Chowk in Delhi, and a ransom of Rs one crore was demanded.
One of the kidnappers, Javed, was arrested and the businessman was rescued by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police later. Seven more kidnappers were arrested later.
A reward of Rs one lakh had also been announced upon Imaan's arrest by the Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi.
Imaan has been booked under sections 147/148/149/307 IPC3/25 Arms Act, 41/102 CrPc and 411 IPC, 7 CLA Act, the official said.
