DRI seizes gold bars, currencies worth over 98 lakh

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials has seized gold bars and foreign currencies in two different incidents at Tiruchirapalli and Chennai International airports.
In the first incident, the DRI officers seized 12 units of gold bars weighing 1.2 kg valued at Rs 36.47 lakh from one Shahul Hameed Abbas Jabbar, who arrived at Tirchirapalli airport from Malaysia last night, an official release said.
In the second incident, the officials seized foreign currencies from 22 passengers at the International Airport here.
The passengers did not carrying any document for the possession of foreign currencies including USD, Euro, Singapore dollars and Thai Bhat valued at Rs 62.26 lakh.
Legal action has been taken up for the offences and further investigation was on, the release said.
