The incident occurred on Saturday night when Pradeep Bhagde (42) was travelling to Mumbai carrying goods worth Rs 10 lakhs from a company, Gujarat Fod Colours, a senior inspector of Virar police station said.
At about 3 am near Kelicha Pada, one of tyres of the vehicle burst, the driver then halt his tempo and started consuming liquor. Some unidentified persons then approached him and attacked him on his head, he said.
Bhagde's body was recovered from the spot on Sunday morning and was sent for postmortem.
A case has been registered against unidentified people under section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
