The alert driver of the Pune-Indore express, while en-route to Indore, applied brake as he saw a cement sleeper lying on the track near Palej area, around 60 kms from here, thereby averting a possible derailment, assistant sub- inspector at GRP, Bharuch police station, Rafiq said.
Meanwhile, Western Railway, Vadodara division official P S Gill said that the driver after applying brake, heard some noise emerging out from the engine. He then checked it and after inspecting, found no major damage.
No rail traffic on the route was affected due to it, he added.
