Driving licenses of criminals to be revoked in Haryana

Haryana Government has directed the authorities to revoke the driving licenses of those who have been found guilty of a criminal offence or have used a vehicle in commission of a cognisable offence.
"The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has directed all the state and Union Territories to adhere the provisions of Section-19 (1) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988," Haryana Transport Commissioner, Sumita Misra said in a release here today.
She said that under the provisions of the Act, the Licensing Authority could disqualify a person from holding a driving license or revoke such license if he is a habitual criminal or habitual drunkard.
She said that in this regard, a written communication has also been forwarded to all Secretaries of Regional Transport Authority and Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil) cum Licensing Authorities (Motor Vehicle) in the state.
