Giving the details, IG, BSF (Punjab Frontier), Ajay Kumar Tomar said the BSF troops deployed at LS Wala Forward border outpost observed some suspicious movement along the zero line following which they challenged the intruders.
The Pakistani smugglers opened fire at the BSF party who retaliated to stop them, Tomar said.
After the exchange of fire, the Pakistani smugglers backed off into the darkness and standing wheat crop, the IG said, adding that later a search operation was carried out during which 36 packets of heroin and a Pakistani SIM card tied with one of the packets was recovered.
