Drunk driving kills one, driver held

A pedestrian died today after a car knocked him down from behind in the city, the police said.
The driver of the killer vehicle, an intoxicated 21-year old Karan Panchamia, was arrested in this connection and the car was seized, they said.
The accident happened at around 4.15 PM today on Casuarina Avenue within the limits of Maidan Police Station area when a speeding Ritz hit the person, whose identity was "still unknown", from behind, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"The accident took place near the No 4 kiosk of Maidan Police Station area. After hitting the man, the car skidded towards the muddy portion of Maidan. We found the person driving the car drunk," the officer said adding, there was another person inside the car.

The victim was rushed to the SSKM Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival, he said.
Karan, identified as the son of a local businessman, was a resident of the Bhawanipore area.
