In a bid to have an accident-free operation in the national capital, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has introduced a "Road Safety Award" for its drivers who will have a good track record.
DTC has taken this initiative to encourage drivers, who are operating around 5,000 buses in different parts of Delhi, towards safe driving.
"DTC wants to get a zero-accident operation in national capital following which corporation has introduced "Road Safety Award" to encourage its drivers towards safe driving. The driver, who will have an accident-free record, will be rewarded with a cash of Rs 5,000 and an appreciation certificate," DTC spokesperson R S Minhas said.
Minhas also said that this scheme will be applicable for both permanent and contractual drivers of the corporation, adding that with this award, they will get encouraged towards accident-free record.
"This will certainly have motivational impact on the DTC's drivers for better performance including safe driving. To begin with, the corporation will soon felicitate those drivers with this award, who have not been involved in any road accident during 2013-2014 finacial year," Minhas added.
According to DTC official, drivers, who have been challaned for traffic violation by the police, will not be eligible for this award.
"The bus operator, which will not be challaned by traffic police in financial year, will be able to get this award. Besides, he has to report to his duty on 256 days of an year to qualify," the DTC official added.
"Road Safety Award" will be given every year and this is the first time DTC has decided to felicitate such bus operators having no accident record.
"The corporation will soon organise a programme to reward drivers (for 2013-14) in which L-G or other senior officer will be invited to give this award to them," Minhas added.
