Facing flak from student unions for not setting up any admission centre on its North Campus, Delhi University has decided to accept off-line applications at SGTB Khalsa College, besides the eight centres on South Campus.
Admission for the 2015-16 academic session will begin on May 28. The off-line registration will open on June 5.
The varsity had earlier announced that it would set up eight admission centres this year as against the 18 which were opened last year.
The centres -- Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, Dyal Singh College, Gargi College, Maharaja Agrasen College, PG DAV College, Rajdhani College, Shyam Singh College and Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce -- are all on South Campus.
Student unions including Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)-led DUSU, National Students Union of India (NSUI), All India Student Association (AISA) had protested against the varsity's decision not to set up any admission counter on North Campus.
"North Campus area is a students' hub and many admission seekers come and stay here. It would be difficult for the aspirants to commute to South Campus.
"Many admission seekers from outer Delhi's rural belt, especially girls, find it difficult to commute to far off places to purchase the form. An admission centre at a college in their vicinity will be helpful for them," Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) had said in a memorandum submitted to varsity authorities.
DU officials informed the admission aspirants during the pre-admission counselling session - 'Open Days' - that one centre will be set up on North Campus too.
"SGTB Khalsa College will be the only North Campus college to serve as the admission information centre," a senior varsity official said.
The off-line registration will close on June 15 and the first cut-off list will be announced on June 25.
