In filmy style, police Saturday gave a hot chase and also opened fire to catch a two-member gang trying to smuggle in 180 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.36 crore from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
A team inspecting vehicles at a check-post here received information that the ganja was being smuggled and flagged down a car, but it sped away, the police said.
A chase ensued and the police deflated a tyre of the vehicle by opening fire at it.
Then, the two occupants were arrested and the narcotics seized, the police said.
The two were habitual offenders and there were cases pending against them in Madurai district, they said.
