Dussehra: Mathura locals to burn effigies of Yamuna pollutants

Instead of an effigy of ten-headed demon king Ravana, people in Mathura will burn solid wastes that pollute the river Yamuna on the occassion of Dussehra tomorrow to mark the triumph of good over evil.
In an effort to clean up the polluted Yamuna river, an organisation named 'Yamuna Mission' has decided to burn effigies made of solid wastes thrown into the river such as discarded clothes and other garbage.
"We are organising the event to make people aware and mobilize them on the need to clean the river. Waste like discarded clothes and other solid wastes thrown on the river banks and in market areas will be collected by volunteers and their effigies will be burnt instead that of Ravana's," Yamuna Mission's convenor Anil Sharma said.
